Using ultraviolet (UV-C) light to inactivate viruses and destroy bacteria

The Surfacide Helios® UV-C Disinfection System uses multiple UV-C light towers after manual cleaning to achieve low-level disinfection, killing vegetative bacteria, some fungi and viruses (including SARS-CoV-2).

The Helios system can prevent the spread of dangerous micro-organisms, including Covid-19, creating safer environments in healthcare, schools, restaurants, offices hotels and fitness centres.

How it works

Artificial ultraviolet (UV) radiation has been used to disinfect air, water and surfaces for decades. The ability of UV radiation to inactivate viruses or kill bacteria is critically dependent on the wavelength emitted by the source and UV-C radiation is considered the most effective for disinfection (UK Office for Products & Safety Standards, Research Report, April 2021).

Bacteria and viruses are vulnerable to UV-C light which is normally absorbed by the Earth's ozone layer. The UV-C light inactivates the DNA of many bacteria and viruses, preventing their ability to multiply.

About Surfacide Helios
